Phu Quoc overview

The sizeable tropical island of Phu Quoc is in the Thai Gulf right at the edge of Vietnamese territory and just below the popular Cambodian resort town of Sihanoukville. It features idyllic, Hawaiin-esque beaches and a tranquil atmosphere and has a decent spread of accommodation, from backpacker dives to swanky five-star resorts. Water-based activities are popular on Phu Quoc, particularly scuba diving and kayaking, and it also has a thick spread of jungle in the interior, which is largely given over to national park. While Phu Quoc is wholly laid-back, it is best to get in quick as commercialism is on the up and up. A combination of bus and hydrofoil will get you in from Ho Chi Minh City.
