Hue overview

Located in an enviable part of Vietnam near to Danang and Hoi An, the aptly-named Hue on the Perfume River is a multicolour haven of Vietnam’s finest imperial buildings. Unfortunately, Hue was caught out in the bombing of Vietnam by American planes and, as such, lost a lot of its ancient buildings. Plenty remain, however, and there is a heck of a lot to see, either on foot, by bike, or by boat. The Tombs of the Emperors sit on the banks of the Perfume River and are the main sets of landmarks, along with several impressive pagodas, while nearby is the Demilitarized Zone and the likes of Hamburger Hill. You can also explore part of the Vinh Moc Tunnels and fine beaches, and eating, shopping and sleeping options are excellent.
