Chau Doc overview

A popular stop-off when coming to or from Phnom Penh in neighbouring Cambodia, Chau Doc, lying deep in the Mekong Delta, is an interesting town for a day or two. While perhaps not really worth travelling from Ho Chi Minh City just to see Chau Doc, it is certainly good to spend time at when crossing the border either way. It is quite scenic, with a river running through it, and is also supremely friendly, with inquisitive locals looking to engage tourists in conversation. Chau Doc also has the mandatory Mekong Delta-type market with handicrafts galore and is a popular place for a good massage after lazy days on a boat. Buses and boats are the transport options.
